The Ministry of Health said Friday that it was studying two cases of people from Wuhan, China, for possible contagion of coronavirus, the new contagious disease that, to this date has caused 130 deaths in that Asian country and that is lighting the Worldwide alerts.
The corresponding analyses confirmed that it was influenza and not Wuhan. The Ministry, in fact, has called for calm because it considers that the probability that the virus will arrive in Spain “is very low” and that the available information is being constantly monitored.
With the flu, there is an opposite situation. The third week of January has seen an uptick of influenza in the country, with a national incidence of 204.5 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, according to data from the Public Health Flu Surveillance System.
The Valencian Community and Catalonia have declared influenza epidemics due to the incidence of 119.5 and 147.7 cases registered per 100 thousand inhabitants, respectively, In Asturias, the situation is even worse, with 623 cases registered per 100 thousand inhabitants, and In La Rioja, there have already been 2 deaths attributed to complications from the disease.
High fever, muscle, head and throat pain, cough, nasal congestion, malaise and lack of energy are the main symptoms of influenza and coronavirus, although the latter can also lead to severe breathing difficulties. And life-threatening pneumonia.
Being contagious diseases, are usually transmitted from person to person when sneezing, coughing or talking, but also when using contaminated objects, so taking basic hygiene measures is essential to prevent their spread.
We remember 4 measures to reduce the risk of flu and Wuhan type virus:
1. Hand washing
Since the company, we have developed a campaign in recent years to explain the correct way of performing hand washing, which should last at least 20 seconds. Hands should be wet to the height of the wrists and abundant soap should be used to rub the palms, the back, the fingers, the nails, and the wrists. After the lathering process, it is very important to rinse with plenty of water and dry thoroughly with a single-use towel or an air dryer. Alcohol sanitizing gels are also powerful substitutes for soap and water and are very useful for carrying anywhere in the bag.
Sanitizing gel dispensers should be a common element in work and educational centers, hospitality and leisure, transportation and health centers. Its use is an effective barrier to prevent infections.
2. The use of handkerchiefs
To prevent germs from circulating in the air it is essential that people cover their nose and mouth when they sneeze or cough, preferably with disposable handkerchiefs. In the absence of scarves, the ideal is to cover yourself with the back of the hand, instead of the palm, or bringing the face closer to the inside of the elbow.
3. Rest
Those who manifest flu symptoms should remain at home, at least during the first few days. This will prevent the virus from spreading to our coworkers, to public transport users, among others. In addition, the sick person must remain continuously hydrated and not self-medicate. In the case of suspected coronavirus, being a new disease, it is recommended to contact the authorities immediately.
4. Air circulation
Especially in offices and crowded spaces, it is important to control the air currents that can favor the entry of cold and temperature changes that promote the appearance of viruses. As part of our Think Green energy-saving campaign, we instill in our employees the importance of properly closing doors and windows to prevent the entry of air currents that can damage our health. And for all, customers, employees and friends, we offer hygiene products and solutions that allow for adequate health prevention in public spaces. We like to take care of you.
